Here we go again! As my rehab from back surgery continues, I am proud to announce that I am returning to Israel for the 2026 ALYN Hospital Wheels of Love Bicycle Marathon! This will be my 24th year (can you believe it?) cycling for the kids of ALYN. This year, our four-day ride will cover over 270 miles in the deserts of the Negev in the south of Israel.
This year I will again be raising money especially for the cutting edge hydrotherapy department at ALYN. The pool is a very central part of the multidisciplinary treatment system that exists at ALYN. Hydrotherapy utilizes the unique properties of water to bring children to better physical function. We use the power of resistance of the water, the power of buoyancy, the possibility of walking in the water - even for children who cannot walk on land. Even children on respirators also benefit from hydrotherapy treatment. When I visited ALYN and saw the pool with all the oxygen tubes hanging down for the kids on respirators, I was amazed and it touched my heart. I never knew that kids on respirators could go into a swimming pool!
I will also be riding in honor/memory of one of my best ALYN brothers, Harvey Grad. Harvey and I have been riding together for ALYN since 2007. Sadly, he passed away a couple of weeks ago after gallantly battling cancer. I will miss him so very much and will think of him as the miles click away and especially when we are greeted by the kids of ALYN on the last day of the ride.
My goal is to raise $10,000 which would provide full funding for 340 hydrotherapy sessions. That would help many, many kids. Just to give you an idea, the 20 hydro therapists at ALYN treat 150 kids/week. In total, the department provides almost 10,000 sessions each year!
Memories of the children of ALYN have filled me throughout the years, during hard times and challenges. The courage and tenacity that they show each day of their young lives to make the most of their capabilities is well worth supporting. PLEASE join with us for this mitzvah and make a donation to ALYN. We will do all the hard work, but you will feel just as good. Promise!
